Welcome to our 40 book challenge for this school year!
Research shows that the best way to become a better reader is to read. Based on the work of Stephen Krashen(http://www.sdkrashen.com/) and Donalyn Miller (http://blogs.edweek.org/teachers/book_whisperer/) . I'm challenging you to read 40 chapter books this school year. Everyone has been given a page on this site as well as a login and password. Please record the books you read on this page. The more detail you give, the more interesting it is. If you are unsure of how to do something see the instructions below.
Adding information:
Click edit.
Begin typing.
Change font, colour, etc. using the toolbar.
Remember to click 'save'.
Adding a link:
Copy the url from the page you would like to link to. In the tool bar above click on "Add link". Paste the url into the rectangle. Click 'enter' on your keyboard. Remember to test your link to make sure it works
Adding an image:
You may add an image that you have taken yourself. Remember if you are taking yourself in the picture you must cover at least 1/2 of your face. You may also use pictures from sites like The Creative Commons http://search.creativecommons.org/ . Remember, any image you use from the internet must have a creative commons license stating that you are free to use it. Within Google images you must go to the advanced search http://www.google.com/advanced_image_search and scroll to the bottom to select 'free to use'. If you use an image from the internet you must include a citation (the photographers name, the date the photo was taken and a link to the website where the picture originated, otherwise the image will be removed.
Adding a video:
You may add a book trailer to your page. First search for book trailers on sites like:
http://www.booktrailersforreaders.com/
http://www.schooltube.com/organization/199825/
http://www.youtube.com/booktrailers4all
http://booktrailersforallsearch.com/ .
Preview the trailer to make sure it is appropriate. Beneath the trailer you will find a 'share' button. Click on 'share'. Copy either the link (see above) or embed code. (Remember control C is copy, control V is paste). Go to your page. Click 'edit'. Open the drop-down menu where it says 'Insert'. Go down to video. Select the appropriate type. Paste your embed code into the box. Click 'next'. Click 'insert plug in'. Remember to click 'save' in order to view your book trailer.

Elsie, if you like animal books and are looking for a series have you tried "Dolphin Diaries" or "Animal Ark"? These series are on the series spinner.

Brenda Roberts said

Hi Mehakdeep, I have only read one Dork Diary book so far and I thought it was pretty funny! The new ones are not processed (no barcodes, not in the computer...) so give me a little time and then they will be ready. Watch the 'R' shelf of the alphabetical spinners. That is where we will shelve them.

Brenda Roberts said

I love the fantasy genre. I've read all of the Harry Potter books, I've seen the movies and I'm very excited as I just heard that J.K. Rowling has just been hired to write some movie scripts with more Hogwarts adventures! You can find out more by following this link: http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2013/09/12/jk-rowling-to-write-harry-potter-inspired-film/2803671/
